I’m currently a graduate student in East Asian Studies at the University of Pittsburgh. I graduated from Brown University with and English degree and worked as a book editor at The New Press and Metropolitan Books. In the next few years, I plan on focusing on Chinese media. I spent last semester building a website that documents blocked words on Weibo. I plan to be in Beijing this summer studying Chinese.
As should be obvious, my interests are varied. I couldn’t (and still can’t) make up my mind about what specifically I wanted to blog about, so the title “X in China” is meant to be a placeholder–a blog about topic X in China. The title can also be read as Xin China (新中国=New China) or, if you were a kid who grew up listening to hip-hop in the late-80s, Xi ‘n China (西方和中国=The West and China). Neither was intentional, but you’re welcome to read it like that.
Another “fun” project of mine is Firefly Chinese, documenting and “analyzing” the usage of Chinese in the Joss Whedon series Firefly.
